post 114. theatre sports world domination tournament.

we in the geva comedy improv troupe have been lucky enough to be invited down to dad's garage's international improv tournament, which goes from August 31st thru September 1st. paul, adam, and i are the special ops team heading down to bring glory to the geva comedy improv name. we'll be playing teams from austria, edmonton, and the infamously, extremely talented iron cobra from toronto, so wish us luck -- we'll need it!

post 112. nin on tour, me in shear madness.

still trying to figure out when and where i'll be able to catch nin this fall. i'm in a play at geva theatre center which pretty much takes up every day except mondays from mid-october thru 2006, and it looks like the nin powers-that-be cancelled the albany show... Posted by Picasa

post 109. apotheosis of greatness for the week.

from allmusic.com:
"While writing and recording The Game, Queen were asked by renowned movie director Dino DeLaurentis to provide the soundtrack for his upcoming sci-fi epic Flash Gordon. The band accepted and promptly began working on both albums simultaneously. Although at first many fans criticized Flash Gordon since it was issued as an official Queen release rather than a motion picture soundtrack, it has proven to be one of rock's better motion picture soundtracks over the years. The majority of the music is instrumental, with dialogue from the movie in place of Freddie Mercury's singing (only two tracks contain lyrics), but the songwriting is still unmistakably Queen. Highlights abound, such as "Football Fight," "Vultan's Theme (Attack of the Hawkmen)," "The Wedding March," and the heavy metal roar of "Battle Theme." But it was the two more conventional songs that were the album's two best tracks — the anthemic U.K. Top Ten hit "Flash's Theme" and the woefully underrated rocker "The Hero." With Queen involved, Flash Gordon is certainly not your average, predictable soundtrack."

post 108. penn and teller's bullshit.

so, i've happened to get my hands on the first two seasons of penn and teller's bullshit series on dvd. it's more than filled that oh-so-large hole left in my heart since hell's kitchen left me. the famous magicians debunk everything from alien abductions to bottled water to creationism. their episode on environmentalism was absolutely amazing, and although i'm an avid non-smoker, their second-hand smoke piece really had me. it's funny, it's made me think about a lot of stuff, and -- more importantly -- points out all the misguided, evil jerks who try to take advantage of suckers like you and me (fuck the terrorists, i'm more concerned about peta now).

post 106. just a question.

am i wrong for staying in rochester? when everyone else seems to be leaving, i feel like i'm just being lazy. am i not challenging myself by sitting at a record store at 31 years old?

and god-damn i don't know what to do without hell's kitchen.

post 105. life as a record store worker.

you know, just working at a record store, with no improv money coming in, and no teaching money coming in (i've been given another section of improv to teach this fall at Brockport -- solid!), makes life really poor. and all that rock'n'roll romanticism about spending rent money on wine, women, and song? not so fun. not so fun.Posted by Picasa

post 103. hell's kitchen.

again, i had ralph pegged as the winner; he was just more confident, but as the night wore on, my friend's predictions came true: strength and confidence is one thing, but vision is another. that whole sidewalk-part was bad-ass...michael just quiet and letting the food do the talking? awesome.

i feel bad for ralph, but think about it: that guy's life is set too...who's not gonna hire him? he'll have his own restaurant some day, even if it isn't a four-star restaurant.

oh please, fox, bring this show back.
